The Office of English Language Acquisition (OELA) provides national leadership to help ensure that English learners, including immigrant children and youth, attain English proficiency and achieve academic success. Additionally, OELA is committed to preserving heritage languages and cultures and promoting opportunities for biliteracy or multiliteracy skills for all students. Through this request for information (RFI), OELA seeks public input to help the U.S. Department of Education (the Department) discover what practices are currently being used to recruit, hire, train, and retain interpreters and translators \1\ for services within early childhood through secondary educational settings.

Under the Small, Rural School Achievement (SRSA) program, Assistance Listing Number 84.358A, the U.S. Department of Education (Department) awards grants on a formula basis to eligible local educational agencies (LEAs) to address the unique needs of rural school districts. In this notice, we establish the deadline and describe the application process for the fiscal year (FY) 2023 SRSA grant. All LEAs eligible for FY 2023 SRSA funds must apply electronically via the process described in this notice by the deadline listed below.

The National Center for Education Research (NCER), a center within the Institute of Education Sciences (IES), is charged with sponsoring sustained research that will lead to the accumulation of knowledge and understanding of the key issues facing education in the 21st century. In carrying out these activities, NCER is required to support not less than 8 Research and Development Centers (R&D Centers) focused on one or more of 11 specified topics (see the list of topics included below in the Background section or see the Education Sciences Reform Act of 2002 (ESRA)). The R&D Centers produce and disseminate rigorous evidence and products that provide practical solutions to important educational problems in the United States. They also provide national leadership in defining research and development directions within their topics. Through this request for information (RFI), NCER is soliciting public input as we seek to identify pressing questions within each of these broad topic areas that an R&D Center would be well-suited to address.
