Energy Conservation Program: Notice of Decision and Order Denying an Exemption to Aero-Tech Light Bulb Co. From the Department of Energy Rough Service Lamps Energy Conservation Standards
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) gives notice of a Decision and Order (Case Number 2018-001) that denies Aero-Tech Light Bulb Co.'s (Aero-Tech) application for a two-year small business exemption from compliance with the DOE rough service lamp energy conservation standards.
Energy Conservation Program: Energy Conservation Standards for Residential Furnaces and Commercial Water Heaters
On November 1, 2018, the U.S. Department of Energy (``DOE'') published in the Federal Register a notice of petition for rulemaking and request for comment regarding whether DOE should issue an interpretive rule stating that DOE's proposed energy conservation standards for residential furnaces and commercial water heaters would result in the unavailability of ``performance characteristics'' within the meaning of the Energy Policy and Conservation Act of 1975, as amended, and withdraw its proposals for amended standards for those products/equipment based upon such findings. The comment period in that notice was set to close on January 30, 2019. In the intervening period, DOE received two requests from interested parties seeking an extension of the comment period in order to develop additional data relevant to the petition. This notice announces an extension of the public comment period for submitting comments in response to that notice of petition for rulemaking. The comment period is hereby extended by 30 days to March 1, 2019.
Energy Conservation Program: Energy Conservation Standards for Certain External Power Supplies
The Department of Energy (DOE) is publishing this final rule to amend its current regulations regarding certain aspects related to its energy conservation standards and scope of coverage for external power supplies. The contents of these technical amendments correspond with provisions enacted by Congress through the Power and Security Systems Act and EPS Improvement Act. DOE is also correcting a misprint related to a table detailing certain statutorily-prescribed requirements.
Amended Record of Decision for the Direct-Feed Low-Activity Waste Approach at the Hanford Site, Washington
This is an amendment to the U.S. Department of Energy'(DOE) 2013 Record of Decision (ROD) for the Final Tank Closure and Waste Management Environmental Impact Statement for the Hanford Site, Richland, Washington (DOE/EIS-0391, December 2012) (TC&WM EIS) published in the Federal Register on December 13, 2013. In the TC&WM EIS, DOE analyzed 11 alternatives for the retrieval, treatment, storage, and disposal of tank wastes, followed by the closure of the single-shell waste storage tanks (SSTs) at the Hanford Site. The six other alternatives analyzed in the TC&WM EIS concerned waste management and Fast Flux Test Facility decommissioning, which are not the subject of this ROD. DOE prepared a supplement analysis (DOE/EIS-0391-SA-02; SA) which evaluated the Direct-Feed Low-Activity Waste (DFLAW) approach to operations of the Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant (WTP), which would pre-treat and send low-activity waste (LAW) from the tank farms to the LAW Facility. This amended ROD addresses those portions of the DFLAW functions and facilities that were not addressed by the 2013 TC&WM EIS ROD.
