Geological Survey 2009 – Federal Register Recent Federal Regulation Documents

We (U.S. Geological Survey) will ask the Office of Management and Budget (OBM) to approve the information collection (IC) described below. As required by the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995 and as a part of our continuing effort to reduce paperwork and respondent burden, we invite the general public and other Federal agencies to comment on this IC. We may not conduct or sponsor and a person is not required to respond to an information collection unless it displays a currently valid OMB control number.

To comply with the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995 (PRA), we are notifying the public that we have submitted to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) a new information collection request (ICR) for approval of the paperwork requirements for the National Institutes for Water Resources (NIWR)-USGS competitive grant program conducted in conjunction with the State Water Resources Research Institutes.

The National Geospatial Advisory Committee (NGAC) will meet on December 1-2, 2009 at the Marriott Metro Center Hotel, 775 12th Street, NW., Washington, DC 20005. The meeting will be held in the London Room. The NGAC, which is composed of representatives from governmental, private sector, non-profit, and academic organizations, was established to advise the Chair of the Federal Geographic Data Committee on management of Federal geospatial programs, the development of the National Spatial Data Infrastructure, and the implementation of Office

Pursuant to Public Law 96-472, the National Earthquake Prediction Evaluation Council (NEPEC) will hold a 2-day meeting on November 4 and 5, 2009. The first day will be a joint meeting with the California Earthquake Prediction Evaluation Council (CEPEC). The meeting will be held at the U.S. Geological Survey Offices on the campus of the California Institue of Technology, 525 South Wilson Avenue, Pasadena, California 91106. The Council is comprised of members from academia and the Federal Government. The Council shall advise the Director of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) on proposed earthquake predictions, on the completeness and scientific validity of the available data related to earthquake predictions, and on related matters as assigned by the Director. To comply with the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995 (PRA), we are notifying the public that we will submit to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) an information collection request (ICR) for the extension of the currently approved paperwork requirements for the USGS Construction Sand and Gravel and Crushed and Broken Stone. This collection consists of three forms and this notice provides the public an opportunity to comment on the paperwork burden of these forms. We may not conduct or sponsor, and a person is not required to respond to, a collection of information unless it displays a currently valid OMB control number.

To comply with the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995 (PRA), we are notifying the public that we will submit to OMB an information collection request (ICR) to renew approval of the paperwork requirements for respondents to submit proposals to support research in earthquake hazard assessments and earthquake occurrence under the Earthquake Hazards Reduction Act of 1977, as amended, Public Law 95- 124, 42 U.S.C. 7701 et seq. To submit a proposal three standard OMB forms and a project narrative must be completed and submitted via Grants.gov. This notice provides the public an opportunity to comment on the paperwork burden of these forms.

The U.S. Geological Survey published a document in the Federal Register on February 9, 2009, regarding increased prices for USGS primary series quadrangles, thematic maps, National Earthquake Information Center maps, and large format and poster maps. The document contained incorrect dates.

The U.S. Geological Survey will increase prices for their following products: (1) 7.5 minute 1:20,000-scale, 1:24,000-scale, 1:25,000-scale, 1:63,360-scale, and 7.5 minute x 15 minute 1:25,000-scale, 1:63,360- scale, 1:100,000-scale and 1:250,000-scale primary series quadrangles from $6.00 to $8.00 per quadrangle. (2) Thematic maps and small scale National Park maps from $7 per sheet to $9 per sheet. (3) National Earthquake Information Center maps bearing private sector copyright from $10 per sheet to $12 per sheet. (4) Large format and poster maps from $7 per sheet to $10 per sheet.

This notice provides the public an opportunity to comment on the paperwork burden of this form.

Notice is hereby given of a meeting of the ACWI. This meeting is to discuss broad policy-related topics relating to national water initiatives, and the development and dissemination of water information, through reports from ACWI subgroups. The agenda will include status of a proposal from the ACWI Subcommittee on Ground Water; discussion of a new Extreme Storms subgroup proposed within the Subcommittee on Hydrology; status of the National Monitoring Network for U.S. Coastal Waters and their Tributaries; request for ACWI approval of an update to the Water Quality Data Elements User Guide that would include physical habitat elements; discussion of ACWI participation in the National Environmental Status and Trends indicators project; and updates on recent activities of the Methods and Data Comparability Board. The ACWI was established under the authority of the Office of Management and Budget Memorandum M92-01 and the Federal Advisory Committee Act. The purpose of the ACWI is to provide a forum for water information users and professionals to advise the Federal Government on activities and plans that may improve the effectiveness of meeting the Nation's water information needs. Member organizations help to foster communications between the Federal and non-Federal sectors on sharing water information. Membership, limited to 35 organizations, represents a wide range of water resources interests and functions. Representation on the ACWI includes all levels of government, academia, private industry, and professional and technical societies.
