NARA is announcing an upcoming Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Advisory Committee meeting.
Records Management
NARA is revising these regulations to make administrative changes, such as updating office names and organizational codes, updating URLs, and updating links to NARA's records management web pages, to reflect organizational and contact changes, and revising the incorporation by reference language to make it consistent with newer regulations and to reflect contact changes.
Records Schedules; Availability and Request for Comments
The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) publishes notice at least once monthly of certain Federal agency requests for records disposition authority (records schedules). Once approved by NARA, records schedules provide mandatory instructions on what happens to records when agencies no longer need them for current Government business. The records schedules authorize agencies to preserve records of continuing value in the National Archives of the United States and to destroy, after a specified period, records lacking administrative, legal, research, or other value. NARA publishes notice in the Federal Register for records schedules in which agencies propose to destroy records they no longer need to conduct agency business. NARA invites public comments on such records schedules.
Agency Information Collection Activities: Proposed Collection; Comment Request
NARA proposes to request an extension from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) of a currently approved information collection used by the public and other Federal agencies to use its official seal(s) and/or logo(s). On March 2, 2018, we published the original version of this notice, but realized thereafter that there was an error in the number of estimated responses, which also affected the other numbers. This corrected notice fixes the error and numbers and replaces the original notice (NARA-2018-021). We invite you to comment on this proposed information collection pursuant to the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995.
Agency Information Collection Activities: Proposed Collection; Comment Request
NARA proposes to request an extension from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) of a currently approved information collection used by registrants or other authorized individuals to request information from or copies of Selective Service System (SSS) records. We invite you to comment on this proposed information collection pursuant to the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995.
Fees
NARA is amending our Fees regulation to shorten the period in which people who request copies of archival records may request a refund. This shorter period is in line with other similar research and archival institutions and is designed to reduce the administrative costs of processing a large number of refund requests that fall outside the permitted bases.
Agency Information Collection Activities: Submission for OMB Review; Comment Request
We are proposing a new generic information collection request (generic ICR) entitled Generic Clearance for NARA Public and Education Program Registration. This notice announces that we have submitted this generic ICR plan to OMB for approval under the Paperwork Reduction Act and solicits comments on specific aspects of the collection plan. We will use this to collect information from individuals registering for an education or other programs at NARA.
