The Advisory Council on Historic Preservation is considering issuing a Program Comment for the Department of the Navy setting forth the way in which it will comply with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act with regard to the determination of National Register of Historic Places eligibility of its vessels and the treatment of adverse effects that may result from their disposition.

The Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP) is considering issuing a Program Comment for the National Telecommunications and Information Administration and the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Utilities Service that would relieve them of the need to conduct a separate Section 106 review regarding the effects of communication facilities construction or modification that will be subject to such review by the Federal Communications Commission. The ACHP seeks public input on the proposed Program Comment.

In 2003 the Chairman of the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP) appointed a Task Force on Archaeology to identify archaeological issues that merited the ACHP's attention. One issue identified was the need to better encourage responsible use of archaeological resources for public benefit, including education programs and heritage tourism. The Task Force has developed a draft policy statement, along with guidance, entitled ``Using Archaeological Resources for Public Benefit, including Education and Heritage Tourism,'' and now seeks public comments on it.

The Advisory Council on Historic Preservation has extended the public comment period regarding its previously published draft ``Policy Statement Regarding Treatment of Burial Sites, Human Remains and Funerary Objects''.

The Department of Defense (DoD) is formulating its plan on how to manage its inventory of World War II (1939-1946) and Cold War (1946- 1974) era ammunition storage facilities. In order to better meet its Federal historic preservation responsibilities in managing these properties, DoD has requested the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP) to comment on the overall management of such properties, as opposed to submit each individual undertaking under such management to separate review. DoD and ACHP have drafted such a comment and now seek public input on it. ACHP will take into account this public input prior to deciding whether to issue the program comment.

The Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP) has extended until December 2, 2005 the public comment period on the Working Principles for revising the ACHP's ``Policy Statement Regarding Treatment of Human Remains and Grave Goods.''
