Termination of the Designation of Nepal for Temporary Protected Status

The designation of Nepal for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) is set to expire on June 24, 2018. After reviewing country conditions and consulting with appropriate U.S. Government agencies, the Secretary of Homeland Security has determined that conditions in Nepal no longer support its designation for TPS and that termination of the TPS designation of Nepal is required pursuant to statute. To provide time for an orderly transition, the Secretary is terminating the designation effective on June 24, 2019, which is 12 months following the end of the current designation. Nationals of Nepal (and aliens having no nationality who last habitually resided in Nepal) who have been granted TPS and wish to maintain their TPS and receive TPS-based Employment Authorization Documents (EAD) valid through June 24, 2019, must re-register for TPS in accordance with the procedures set forth in this Notice. After June 24, 2019, nationals of Nepal (and aliens having no nationality who last habitually resided in Nepal) who have been granted TPS under the Nepal designation will no longer have TPS.

We are making no other revisions to the body system in this final rule. This extension ensures that we will continue to have the criteria we need to evaluate impairments in the affected body system at step three of the sequential evaluation processes for initial claims and continuing disability reviews.

If the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) receives documentation that the community has adopted the required floodplain management measures prior to the effective suspension date given in this rule, the suspension will not occur and a notice of this will be provided by publication in the Federal Register on a subsequent date. Also, information identifying the current participation status of a community can be obtained from FEMA's Community Status Book (CSB). This volume of the FSEIS was issued as part of the NRC staff's review of Entergy Nuclear Operations, Inc.'s request for extended plant operation beyond the initial period of 40 years. This volume incorporates new information that the NRC staff has obtained since the publication of Volume 4 of the FSEIS in June 2013.
