The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) has decided to adopt the preferred alternative identified in the Sugar Camp Energy, LLC Mine No. 1 Boundary Revision 6 Final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), which was made available to the public on October 2, 2020. A Notice of Availability of the Final EIS was published in the Federal Register on October 9, 2020. The purpose and need of the Proposed Action is to recover TVA's investment by approving the proposed SBR No. 6 mining plan under the terms of the coal lease agreement made with Sugar Camp in 2002. TVA's preferred alternative, analyzed in the EIS as the Action Alternative, consists of TVA approving the plan to extract TVA-owned coal reserves within a 12,125-acre portion of the overall Significant Boundary Revision No. 6 shadow area.

This notice is provided in accordance with the Council on Environmental Quality's regulations and Tennessee Valley Authority's (TVA's) procedures for implementing the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). TVA has decided to adopt the Preferred Alternative identified in the Gallatin Fossil Plant (GAF) Surface Impoundment Closure and Restoration Project Environmental Impact Statement. The Final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) was made available to the public on August 7, 2020. A Notice of Availability of the Final EIS was published in the Federal Register on August 14, 2020. The Preferred Alternative is ``Closure of the Ash Pond Complex (APC) via Closure-by- Removal and Expansion of the Existing Onsite Landfill.'' This alternative would achieve the purpose and need of the project to support the implementation of TVA's goal to eliminate all wet Coal Combustion Residuals (CCR) storage at its coal plants by closing CCR surface impoundments across the TVA system and to comply with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's CCR Rule and other applicable federal and state statutes and regulations. The proposed actions would also provide long-term onsite landfill space for operations and/or storage of CCR.

The TVA Board of Directors (Board) accepted the NRP and authorized TVA's Chief Executive Officer to implement the preferred alternative at its May 7, 2020, meeting. This alternative updates the NRP and will guide TVA's natural resource management over the next 20 years.

The Preferred Alternative is ``Closure of the Metal Cleaning Pond, Closure-by-Removal of the East Ash Pond Complex and the West Ash Pond; Disposal of CCR in an Offsite Landfill Location.'' This alternative would achieve the purpose and need of the project to support the implementation of TVA's goal to eliminate all wet Coal Combustion Residuals (CCR) storage at its coal plants; close CCR surface impoundments across the TVA system; comply with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's CCR Rule and other applicable federal and state statutes and regulations; and enhance future economic development in the greater Memphis area.

The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) intends to prepare an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the proposed TVA-developed solar facility in Lawrence County, Alabama. The purpose of this EIS is to address the potential environmental effects associated with building, operating, and maintaining the solar facility, North Alabama Utility-Scale Solar Project, in Lawrence County, Alabama. The proposed facility would encompass approximately 3,000 acres. Public comments are invited concerning both the scope of the EIS and environmental issues that should be addressed as part of this EIS.
