Draft Standards and Best Practices for Interaction Between Medical Examiner/Coroner and Organ and Tissue Procurement Organizations
In an effort to obtain further comments from interested parties, the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, National Institute of Justice, Scientific Working Group for Medicolegal Death Investigation has extended the deadline for comments on the draft document titled ``Organ and Tissue Procurement Committee Standards and Best Practices for Interaction Between Medical Examiner/Coroner Offices and Organ Tissue Procurement Organizations'' from May 12, 2012, to June 11, 2012. Notice of the availability of this document was published previously in the Federal Register at 77 FR 24573, on April 24, 2012, as OJP (NIJ) Docket No. 1589. Based on the testimony at four public hearings; comprehensive research; and extensive input from experts, advocates, and impacted families and communities nationwide, the task force will issue a final report to the Attorney General presenting its findings and comprehensive policy recommendations in the fall of 2012.

Request for Proposals for Certification and Testing Expertise for the Ballistic Resistance of Personal Body Armor (2008) Standard
The National Institute of Justice (NIJ) is in the process of revising its Ballistic Resistance of Personal Body Armor (2008) Standard and corresponding certification program requirements. This work will be performed by a Special Technical Committee (STC), comprised of practitioners from the field, researchers, testing experts, certification experts, and representatives from stakeholder organizations. It is anticipated that the STC members will participate in up to fifteen 2-day meetings over an 18-month time period with the goal of completing development of the standard and certification program requirements. It is anticipated that STC meetings will begin in March 2012. Travel expenses and per diem will be reimbursed for all STC meetings; however, participation time will not be funded. NIJ is seeking representatives from (1) certification bodies and (2) test laboratories with experience in programs for similar types of ballistic-resistant personal protective equipment. Additional preferred knowledge includes experience with law enforcement and corrections operations. There are up to four positions to be filled on the STC, and NIJ will accept the first 20 submissions for peer review. Interested parties should nominate individuals from their organizations and submit an application describing the nominee's relevant experience, preferred knowledge, and affiliations with standards development organizations. To be considered, there must not be any conflict of interest in which the proposed STC member has a direct financial relationship with manufacturers of ballistic-resistant armor. Debra Stoe is the NIJ Program Manager responsible for this work, and Casandra Robinson is the point of contact for Ms. Stoe. Interested parties must contact Casandra Robinson at casandra.robinson@usdoj.gov to request further information on what must be submitted. Any submissions must be emailed to Casandra Robinson by January 20, 2012. The submissions will be peer reviewed, and selected participants will be notified regarding the results of the peer review by February 6, 2012.

The National Institute of Justice (NIJ) and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) are jointly hosting a workshop focused on NIJ Standard-0101.06, Ballistic Resistance of Body Armor, and the discussion is directed toward manufacturers, certification bodies, and test laboratories. This workshop is being held specifically to discuss with interested parties the upcoming revision of this standard and to receive input, comments, and recommendations. The workshop will be held on Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at NIST, 100 Bureau Drive, Gaithersburg MD, Building 101, Lecture Room A. The workshop will begin with a general session from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Following the general session, individual 30-minute breakout session will be offered from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 a.m. for those interested in the following: (1) One-on-one conversation with NIJ leadership. (2) One-on-one discussion with Compliance Testing Program personnel. (3) One-on-one discussion with personnel leading development of the revised standard. Time slots for individual breakout sessions may be requested from the registration page indicated below. Additional time slots will be made available if needed to accommodate attendee requests. Workshop discussions will be documented and published on https:// www.justnet.org. Information shared during the individual breakout sessions that NIJ views as beneficial to the broader body armor community will be summarized as part of the workshop notes. Contributors of comments will not be identified in the workshop notes. Each attendee is advised that it is the responsibility of the contributor to protect any information that they may consider proprietary during both the workshop and any individual breakout session in which they may participate. Space is limited at this workshop, and as a result, only 50 participants will be allowed to register for the general session. Individual time slots will be available on the registration page. We request that each organization limit their representatives to no more than two per organization. Exceptions to this limit may occur, should space allow. Participants planning to attend are responsible for their own travel arrangements. Participants are strongly encouraged to come prepared to ask questions and to voice suggestions and concerns. Establishment of the Attorney General's National Task Force on Children Exposed to Violence
The Attorney General's National Task Force on Children Exposed to Violence (the Task Force) is established in accordance with the provisions of the Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA), as amended, 5 U.S.C., App. 2. The Task Force will provide the Attorney General with valuable advice on a broad array of issues to address the national problem of children's exposure to violence. The Task Force will conduct 4 public hearings at various locations around the nation to gather information from key professionals, academics, policy makers, and the public about the extent of the problem of childhood exposure to violence and promising practices for preventing and mitigating the effects of childhood exposure to violence. Based on information gathered at these hearings, the Task Force will develop and provide to the Attorney General a report, which will include high-level policy advice and recommendations regarding preventing children's exposure to violence and mitigating the negative effects experienced by children who are exposed to violence. The Task Force is necessary and in the public interest. The Task Force Charter will terminate on December 31, 2012.

National Institute of Justice Interview Room Recording Systems and License Plate Readers Workshop
The National Institute of Justice (NIJ) and the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) are hosting two workshops in conjunction with the 118th Annual IACP Conference in Chicago, Ill. The focus of the workshops is the development of NIJ performance standards for Interview Room Recording Systems and License Plate Readers used by law enforcement agencies. Hearings of the Review Panel on Prison Rape
The Office of Justice Programs (OJP) announces that the Review Panel on Prison Rape (Panel) will hold hearings in Washington, DC on September 15-16, 2011. The hearing times and location are noted below. The purpose of the hearings is to assist the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) in identifying common characteristics of victims and perpetrators of sexual victimization in U.S. jails, and the common characteristics of jails with the highest and lowest incidence of rape, respectively, based on an anonymous survey by the BJS of inmates in a representative sample of U.S. jails. On August 26, 2010, the BJS issued the report Sexual Victimization in Prisons and Jails Reported by Inmates, 2008-09. The report provides a listing of jails grouped according to the prevalence of reported sexual victimization, and formed the basis of the Panel's decision about which facilities would be the subject of testimony.

Establishment of the SANE/SART AI/AN Initiative Committee
The National Coordination Committee on the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) American Indian/Alaskan Native (AI/AN) Initiative (``SANE/SART AI/AN Initiative Committee'' or ``Committee'') is being established in accordance with the provisions of the Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA), as amended, 5 U.S.C., App. 2. The SANE/SART AI/AN Initiative Committee will provide the Office for Victims of Crime, a component of the U.S. Department of Justice's Office of Justice Programs, with valuable advice about the complex issues that arise when AI/AN law enforcement agencies and their Federal, State and local counterparts attempt to coordinate a response to the victims of sexual assault. The Committee will also advise about the unique cultural issues faced by victims of sexual assault within the AI/AN community. The advice provided by the Committee will assist OVC in ensuring that its strategies, policies, and Initiative goals are responsive to the challenges faced by both those who respond to the victims of sexual assault within AI/AN communities and the victims themselves. The SANE/SART AI/AN Initiative Committee is necessary and in the public interest. The Committee's charter is subject to renewal and will expire two years from its filing. The Committee is continuing in nature, to remain functional until the Attorney General determines that all necessary duties have been performed.
