The National Institute of Justice (NIJ) and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) are jointly hosting a workshop focused on the NIJ Stab-resistant Body Armor Standard, and the discussion is directed toward manufacturers, certification bodies, and test laboratories. This workshop is being held specifically to discuss with interested parties recent progress made toward the revised NIJ Stab-resistant Body Armor Standard and to receive input, comments, and recommendations. The workshop will be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at NIST, 100 Bureau Drive, Gaithersburg, MD, Building 101, Lecture Room A. The workshop will begin with a general session from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Following the general session, individual 30-minute breakout session will be offered from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for those interested in the following: (1) One-on-one conversation with NIJ leadership. (2) One-on-one discussion with Compliance Testing Program personnel. (3) One-on-one discussion with personnel leading development of the revised standard. Time slots for individual breakout sessions may be requested from the registration page indicated below. Additional time slots will be made available if needed to accommodate attendee requests. Workshop discussions will be documented and published on https:// www.justnet.org. Information shared during the individual breakout sessions that NIJ views as beneficial to the broader body armor community will be summarized as part of the workshop notes. Contributors of comments will not be identified in the workshop notes. Each attendee is advised that it is the responsibility of the contributor to protect any information that they may consider proprietary during both the workshop and any individual breakout session in which they may participate. Space is limited at this workshop, and as a result, only 50 participants will be allowed to register for the general session. Individual time slots will be available on the registration page. We request that each organization limit their representatives to no more than two per organization. Exceptions to this limit may occur, should space allow. This is an announcement of the first hearing of the Attorney General's National Task Force on Children Exposed to Violence (hereafter refered to as the Task Force). The Task Force is chartered to provide the Attorney General with valuable advice in the areas of children's exposure to violence for the purpose of addressing the epidemic levels of exposure to violence faced by our nation's children. Based on the testimony at four public hearings, on comprehensive research, and on extensive input from experts, advocates, and impacted families and communities nationwide, the Task Force will issue a final report to the Attorney General presenting its findings and comprehensive policy recommendations in the fall of 2012.

The Office of Justice Programs (OJP) announces that the Review Panel on Prison Rape (Panel) will hold hearings in Washington, DC on September 15-16, 2011. The hearing times and location are noted below. The purpose of the hearings is to assist the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) in identifying common characteristics of victims and perpetrators of sexual victimization in U.S. jails, and the common characteristics of jails with the highest and lowest incidence of rape, respectively, based on an anonymous survey by the BJS of inmates in a representative sample of U.S. jails. On August 26, 2010, the BJS issued the report Sexual Victimization in Prisons and Jails Reported by Inmates, 2008-09. The report provides a listing of jails grouped according to the prevalence of reported sexual victimization, and formed the basis of the Panel's decision about which facilities would be the subject of testimony.

The National Institute of Justice (NIJ) is providing notice of its administrative clarification of NIJ Standard 0101.06, ``Ballistic Resistance Body Armor'' (hereinafter, ``NIJ Standard-0101.06'').

The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) announces a meeting of the Federal Advisory Committee on Juvenile Justice (FACJJ). Dates and Locations: The meeting will take place at the Gaylord National Hotel and Convention Center, 201 Waterfront Street, National Harbor, MD 20745, on Tuesday, October 11, 2011 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

In an effort to obtain comments from interested parties, the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, National Institute of Justice (NIJ) will make available to the general public three draft documents related to Vehicular Digital Multimedia Evidence Recording Systems (VDMERSs) used by law enforcement agencies: 1. Draft VDMERS Standard for Law Enforcement. 2. Draft Law Enforcement VDMERS Certification Program Requirements. 3. Draft Law Enforcement VDMERS Selection and Application Guide.

The National Coordination Committee on the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) American Indian/Alaskan Native (AI/AN) Initiative (``SANE/SART AI/AN Initiative Committee'' or ``Committee'') is being established in accordance with the provisions of the Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA), as amended, 5 U.S.C., App. 2. The SANE/SART AI/AN Initiative Committee will provide the Office for Victims of Crime, a component of the U.S. Department of Justice's Office of Justice Programs, with valuable advice about the complex issues that arise when AI/AN law enforcement agencies and their Federal, State and local counterparts attempt to coordinate a response to the victims of sexual assault. The Committee will also advise about the unique cultural issues faced by victims of sexual assault within the AI/AN community. The advice provided by the Committee will assist OVC in ensuring that its strategies, policies, and Initiative goals are responsive to the challenges faced by both those who respond to the victims of sexual assault within AI/AN communities and the victims themselves. The SANE/SART AI/AN Initiative Committee is necessary and in the public interest. The Committee's charter is subject to renewal and will expire two years from its filing. The Committee is continuing in nature, to remain functional until the Attorney General determines that all necessary duties have been performed.

This is an announcement of a meeting of DOJ's National Motor Vehicle Title Information System (NMVTIS) Federal Advisory Committee to discuss the role of the NMVTIS Federal Advisory Committee Members and various issues relating to the operation and implementation of NMVTIS.

The National Institute of Justice (NIJ) is in the process of developing a new Protective (possibly including both ballistic and riot protection) Helmet Standard and corresponding certification program requirements. This work will be performed by a Special Technical Committee (STC), comprised of practitioners from the field, researchers, testing experts, certification experts, and representatives from stakeholder organizations. It is anticipated that the STC members will participate in up to twelve 2-day meetings over an 18-month time period with the goal of completing development of the standard and certification program requirements. It is anticipated that STC meetings will begin in June 2011. Travel expenses and per diem will be reimbursed for all STC meetings; however, participation time will not be funded. NIJ is seeking representatives from (1) certification bodies and (2) test laboratories with experience in programs for similar types of personal protective equipment. Additional preferred knowledge includes experience with ballistic testing or experience with law enforcement operations. There are up to four positions to be filled on the STC, and NIJ will accept the first 20 submissions for review. Interested parties are requested to nominate individuals from their organizations and submit no more than two pages describing the nominee's applicable experience, preferred knowledge, and affiliations with standards development organizations. To be considered, there must not be any conflict of interest in which the proposed STC member has a direct financial relationship with manufacturers of protective helmets. Debra Stoe is the NIJ Program Manager responsible for this work, and Jim Wong is the point of contact for Ms. Stoe. Responses to this request for proposals shall be submitted to Jim Wong at jim.wong@srnl.doe.gov by May 13, 2011. The submissions will be reviewed, and participants will be notified regarding their acceptance by May 20, 2011.

The National Institute of Justice (NIJ) is hosting an Officer Tracking System Standard Workshop specifically to introduce manufacturers, certification bodies and test laboratories to the new Offender Tracking System Standard that is under development and to receive input and feedback. NIJ will extend the deadline for those who wish to submit comments regarding this document from April 25, 2011, to the date specified below. NIJ's ``Law Enforcement Vehicular Digital Multimedia Evidence Recording System Selection and Application Guide'' is not available for public comment at this time. NIJ anticipates that this document will be available at a future date, and plans to publish a separate notice announcing its availability and soliciting comments on it at that time.
