The United States Mint published a document in the Federal Register of January 6, 2009, outlining the new pricing methodology for numismatic products containing gold and platinum coins. The document contained schedules for pricing based on a range of average prices of gold and platinum. These schedules now need to be expanded to higher ranges to accommodate rising prices of gold and platinum.

The United States Mint is announcing pricing for the 2009 United States Mint District of Columbia and U.S. Territories Quarters Silver Proof Set\TM\, the 2009 United States Mint Proof Set[reg], the 2009 United States Mint Uncirculated Coin Set[reg], and the 2009 United States Mint Silver Proof Set\TM\. The 2009 United States Mint District of Columbia and U.S. Territories Quarters Silver Proof Set will be released this spring, and will be priced at $29.95. The 2009 United States Mint Proof Set will be released this summer, and will be priced at $29.95. The 2009 United States Mint Uncirculated Coin Set will be released this summer, and will be priced at $27.95. The 2009 United States Mint Silver Proof Set will be released this summer, and will be priced at $52.95.

The United States Mint is announcing the price of the 2009 Presidential $1 Coin 25-Coin Numismatic Rolls. The 2009 Presidential $1 Coin 25-Coin Numismatic Rolls, honoring Presidents William Henry Harrison, John Tyler, James K. Polk and Zachary Taylor, will be priced at $35.95 each. Rolls of Presidential $1 Coins struck at both the United States Mint at Philadelphia and the United States Mint at Denver will be available. The first 2009 Presidential $1 Coin 25-Coin Numismatic Roll, honoring President William Henry Harrison, will be offered for sale on February 19, 2009.

The United States Mint is increasing the premium charged to Authorized Purchasers for American Eagle Silver Bullion Coins, a program authorized under 31 U.S.C. 5112(e). Because of the recent price increase for the premium for raw materials silver, the United States Mint will increase the premium charged to Authorized Purchasers for American Eagle Silver Bullion Coins, from $1.40 to $1.50 per coin, for all orders accepted on or after February 9, 2009.

The United States Mint is implementing a new pricing methodology for its numismatic products containing platinum and gold coins to mitigate the effect that fluctuating gold and platinum commodity costs has on the pricing of these products. The new pricing methodology is based primarily on the London Fix weekly average (average of the London Fix prices covering the previous Thursday a.m. Fix through the Wednesday a.m. Fix) platinum and gold prices, which reflect the market value of the platinum and gold bullion that these products contain. As required by law, the prices of these products also must be sufficient to recover all other costs incurred by the United States Mint, such as the cost of minting, marketing, and distributing such products (including labor, materials, dies, use of machinery, and promotional and overhead expenses). This pricing methodology will allow the United States Mint to change the prices of these products as often as weekly so they better reflect the costs of platinum and gold on the open markets.

The United States Mint is setting prices and will resume selling previously available products. Pursuant to the authority that 31 U.S.C. 5111(a), 5112 & 5132 grant the Secretary of the Treasury to prepare and distribute numismatic items, the United States Mint will resume selling previously available products. The United States Mint is setting the price of these coins in accordance with 31 U.S.C. 9701(b)(2)(B). Pursuant to United States Code, title 31, section 5135(b), the United States Mint is reopening and extending the submission period for applications for appointment to the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC) as a member representing the interests of the general public in the coinage of the United States. The CCAC was established to: Advise the Secretary of the Treasury on any theme or design proposals relating to circulating coinage, bullion coinage, Congressional Gold Medals, and national and other medals produced by the United States Mint. Advise the Secretary of the Treasury with regard to the events, persons, or places that the CCAC recommends to be commemorated by the issuance of commemorative coins in each of the five calendar years succeeding the year in which a commemorative coin designation is made. Make recommendations with respect to the mintage level for any commemorative coin recommended. Total membership consists of eleven voting members appointed by the Secretary of the Treasury: One person specially qualified by virtue of his or her education, training or experience as a nationally or internationally recognized curator in the United States of a numismatic collection; One person specially qualified by virtue of his or her experience in the medallic arts or sculpture; One person specially qualified by virtue of his or her education, training, or experience in American history; One person specially qualified by virtue of his or her education, training, or experience in numismatics; Three persons who can represent the interests of the general public in the coinage of the United States; and Four persons appointed by the Secretary of the Treasury on the basis of the recommendations by the House and Senate leadership. Members are appointed for a term of four years. No individual may be appointed to the CCAC while serving as an officer or employee of the Federal Government. The CCAC is subject to the direction of the Secretary of the Treasury. Meetings of the CCAC are open to the public and are held approximately six to eight times per year. The United States Mint is responsible for providing the necessary support, technical services and advice to the CCAC. CCAC members are not paid for their time or services, but, consistent with Federal Travel Regulations, members are reimbursed for their travel and lodging expenses to attend meetings. Members are Special Government Employees and are subject to the Standards of Ethical Conduct for Employees of the Executive Branch (5 CFR part 2653). The United States Mint will review all submissions and will forward its recommendations to the Secretary of the Treasury for appointment consideration. Candidates should include specific skills, abilities, talents, and credentials to support their applications. The United States Mint is also interested in candidates who have demonstrated leadership skills, have received recognition by their peers in their field of interest, have a record of participation in public service or activities, and are willing to commit the time and effort to participate in the CCAC meetings and related activities.
