Qualification of Drivers; Exemption Applications; Vision
FMCSA announces its decision to renew the exemptions from the vision requirement in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations for 12 individuals. FMCSA has statutory authority to exempt individuals from the vision requirement if the exemptions granted will not compromise safety. The Agency has concluded that granting these exemption renewals will provide a level of safety that is equivalent to, or greater than, the level of safety maintained without the exemptions for these commercial motor vehicle (CMV) drivers.
Agency Information Collection Activities; New Information Collection: Household Goods Consumer Information Program Assessment Study
In accordance with the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995, FMCSA announces its plan to submit the Information Collection Request (ICR) described below to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) for review and approval. The intent of the ICR is to collect information on recent interstate household goods shippers' (consumers) awareness of the Household Goods (HHG) Consumer Information Program messages and activities. On September 26, 2007, FMCSA published a Federal Register notice allowing for a 60-day comment period on the ICR. One comment was received.
Agency Information Collection Activities; New Information Collection: Share the Road Safely Outreach Program Assessment
In accordance with the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995, FMCSA announces its plan to submit the Information Collection Request (ICR) described below to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) for review and approval. The proposed ICR will be used to collect information on commercial motor vehicle (CMV) and passenger car drivers' awareness of the Share the Road Safely Outreach Program safety messages and activities. On September 11, 2007, FMCSA published a Federal Register notice allowing for a 60-day comment period on the ICR. The Agency received one comment on the ICR.
Agency Information Collection Activities; Revision of a Currently Approved Information Collection: Motor Carrier Identification Report
In accordance with the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995, FMCSA announces its plan to submit the Information Collection Request (ICR) described below to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) for review and approval. FMCSA requests approval to revise an ICR entitled, ``Motor Carrier Identification Report,'' which is used to identify FMCSA regulated entities, help prioritize the agency's activities, aid in assessing the safety outcomes of those activities, and for statistical purposes. On November 7, 2007, FMCSA published a Federal Register notice allowing for a 60-day comment period on the ICR. No comments were received.

FMCSA announces its decision to exempt 28 individuals from the vision requirement in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs). The exemptions will enable these individuals to operate commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) in interstate commerce without meeting the prescribed vision standard. The Agency has concluded that granting these exemptions will provide a level of safety that is equivalent to, or greater than, the level of safety maintained without the exemptions for these CMV drivers.
Agency Information Collection Activities; Extension of a Currently Approved Information Collection: Transportation of Hazardous Materials, Highway Routing
In accordance with the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995, FMCSA announces its plan to submit the Information Collection Request (ICR) described below to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) for review and approval. The FMCSA requests approval to extend an existing information collection entitled ``Transportation of Hazardous Materials, Highway Routing,'' which requires States and Indian tribes to identify designated/restricted routes and restrictions or limitations affecting how motor carriers may transport certain hazardous materials on the highway. On October 30, 2007, FMCSA published a Federal Register notice allowing for a 60-day comment period on the ICR. No comment was received.

FMCSA has statutory authority to exempt individuals from the vision requirement if the exemptions granted will not compromise safety. The Agency has reviewed the comments submitted in response to the previous announcement and concluded that granting these exemptions will provide a level of safety that will be equivalent to, or greater than, the level of safety maintained without the exemptions for these commercial motor vehicle (CMV) drivers.

The Agency has reviewed the comments submitted in response to the previous announcement and concluded that granting these exemptions will provide a level of safety that will be equivalent to, or greater than, the level of safety maintained without the exemptions for these commercial motor vehicle (CMV) drivers.
Hours of Service of Drivers: Dart Transit Company Application for Exemption
The FMCSA announces an extension of the comment period until January 25, 2008, for Dart Transit Company's (Dart) application for an exemption from certain commercial motor vehicle driver hours-of-service provisions of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations. Dart requested an exemption for 200 of its owner-operators from the prohibition against driving after the 14th hour of coming on-duty, following 10 consecutive hours off-duty, and the requirement that drivers using two sleeper-berth (S/B) periods to accumulate the equivalent of 10 consecutive hours off-duty spend at least 8 but less than 10 consecutive hours in the S/B during one of those two periods. The Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety (Advocates) has requested an extension of time for the public comment period because the issues involved require additional time to evaluate. The FMCSA is granting the Advocates' request.
