The purpose of this notice is to: (1) Announce the publication of interim guidance; and (2) solicit public comment on the contents of the interim guidance. Section 1201 of the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU) (Pub. L. 109-59, Aug. 10, 2005) established the Real-Time System Management Information Program to make traffic and travel conditions information available to the traveling public and to ease the sharing of traffic and travel conditions information among public agencies and private enterprise. This interim guidance will be in effect when published in the Federal Register; however, we will review all comments submitted to the docket and will modify the guidance as necessary or appropriate.

On September 20, 2007, the FHWA published its Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) in the Federal Register at 72 FR 53736. This publication announced a public meeting on October 11, 2007, to discuss the NPRM. In response to comments received, the FHWA has decided to hold an additional public meeting on October 18, 2007, at 1:30 p.m. All interested persons are invited to offer views at these two public meetings.
