Endangered and Threatened Wildlife and Plants; 90-Day Finding on a Petition To List the Mexican Gray Wolf as an Endangered Subspecies With Critical Habitat
We, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service), announce a 90-day finding on two petitions to list the Mexican gray wolf (Canis lupus baileyi) (Mexican wolf) as an endangered subspecies and designate critical habitat under the Endangered Species Act of 1973, as amended (Act). Although not listed as a subspecies, the Mexican wolf is currently listed as endangered within the broader listing of gray wolves. Based on our review, we find that the petitions present substantial scientific or commercial information indicating that the Mexican wolf subspecies may warrant listing such that reclassifying the Mexican wolf as a separate subspecies may be warranted. Under the Endangered Species Act of 1973 (ESA), we, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service), announce our initiation of 5-year reviews of five listed species: Delmarva Peninsula fox squirrel, northeastern bulrush, Furbish lousewort, Chittenango ovate amber snail, and Virginia round-leaf birch. A 5-year review is based on the best scientific and commercial data available at the time of the review; therefore, we are requesting submission of any such information that has become available since the original listing of each of these species. Based on the results of these 5-year reviews, we will make the requisite findings under the ESA.
