Assistance to Foreign Atomic Energy Activities
DOE issues procedures for the imposition of civil penalties for violations of the provisions of the Atomic Energy Act of 1954 (AEA) that restrict participation by U.S. persons in the development or production of special nuclear material outside of the United States. This final rule provides procedures to implement a statutory amendment contained within the John S. McCain National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2019.
Request for Information Regarding Categorical Exclusions
On November 15, 2022, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) published a request for information to help inform potential updates to categorical exclusions in its regulations implementing the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). Through the request for information, DOE sought recommendations and supporting information from interested individuals and organizations on establishing new categorical exclusions and revising existing ones. In response to public request, DOE is re-opening the comment period for 30 days to allow interested parties additional time to provide input.
Civil Monetary Penalty Inflation Adjustments
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (Commission) is issuing a final rule to amend its regulations governing the maximum civil monetary penalties assessable for violations of statutes, rules, and orders within the Commission's jurisdiction. The Federal Civil Penalties Inflation Adjustment Act of 1990, as amended most recently by the Federal Civil Penalties Inflation Adjustment Act Improvements Act of 2015, requires the Commission to issue this final rule.
