Article 4 - DAY PROGRAMS FOR PERSONS WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITY

A. Routine Medical Care
(1) Every participant will be
examined by a licensed physician within twelve 12 months prior to admission or
within 30 days after admission. The results of the exam will be kept at the
main program site.
(2) Any evidence
of illness or injury shall be documented in the participant's record and action
shall be taken to obtain necessary medical treatment of the individual and to
safeguard others from contagion.
B. Medication
(1) Medication to be administered shall be
stored in a locked cabinet not accessible to unauthorized persons. Prescribed
medication shall be kept in the original containers bearing the pharmacy label
which shows drug name, the prescription number, date filled, physician's name,
directions for use, and the patient's name.
(2) Employees supervising the taking of
medication will document that medication was taken by client as authorized by
parents or guardian.
(3) Written
authorization to administer any medication must be given by parents or guardian
or community residence assuming that authority.
C. Emergency Medical Care--A written plan for emergency medical services shall be developed to meet participant's needs. This shall include the name of the physician to be notified and means of transportation for emergency medical care. If a physician's services are not immediately available and the client's condition requires immediate medical attention, the director is responsible for securing transportation to the nearest medical emergency facility. Written permission from each parent/guardian authorizing such care shall be on file in the agency.
D. First Aid
(1) A first aid kit shall be maintained at
each program site.
(2) All direct
care staff will be trained in American Red Cross first aid procedures (either
basic or standard first aid) within the first month of employment for new
employees.
