Section 635-042-0130 - Smelt Season

Effective January 26 through February 28, smelt may be taken for commercial purposes in zones 1-3 of the Columbia River with the following restrictions:

(1) Smelt may only be taken on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

(2) Gillnet mesh size may not exceed two-inches stretch measure.

(3) Nets may not exceed 1,500 feet in length along the cork line.

(4) Nets not authorized for use in this fishery may be kept onboard the vessel if properly stored. A properly stored net is defined as a net on a drum that is fully covered by a canvas or plastic tarp and bound with a minimum of ten revelations of rope with a diameter of 0.375 inches or greater.
