This notice contains a summary of a petition seeking relief from specified requirements of 14 CFR. The purpose of this notice is to improve the public's awareness of, and participation in, this aspect of FAA's regulatory activities. We propose to adopt a new airworthiness directive (AD) for Turbomeca S.A. Arriel 2D turboshaft engines. This proposed AD was prompted by a low fuel pressure event caused by a deterioration and a loss of the low-pressure drive function within the hydro-mechanical metering unit (HMU). This proposed AD would require replacing the HMU at a reduced life. We are proposing this AD to prevent an uncommanded in-flight shutdown of the engine, and possible loss of the helicopter.

This action proposes to modify Class E airspace at Savoonga Airport, AK, to accommodate aircraft using new Area Navigation (RNAV) Global Positioning System (GPS) standard instrument approach procedures at Savoonga Airport. The FAA is proposing this action to enhance the safety and management of aircraft operations at the airport.
