The NEPEC provides advice and recommendations to the Director of the USGS on earthquake predictions and related scientific research.

The Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) approved the Manzanita Band of Diegueno Mission Indians of the Manzanita Reservation, California (Tribe) leasing regulations under the Helping Expedite and Advance Responsible Tribal Homeownership Act of 2012 (HEARTH Act). With this approval, the Tribe is authorized to enter into business, agricultural, residential leases, wind energy evaluation leases, and wind and solar resource leases without further BIA approval.
