Culturally Significant Objects Imported for Exhibition Determinations: “Carvers and Collectors: The Lasting Allure of Ancient Gems”
Notice is hereby given of the following determinations: Pursuant to the authority vested in me by the Act of October 19, 1965 (79 Stat. 985; 22 U.S.C. 2459), Executive Order 12047 of March 27, 1978, the Foreign Affairs Reform and Restructuring Act of 1998 (112 Stat. 2681, et seq.; 22 U.S.C. 6501 note, et seq.), Delegation of Authority No. 234 of October 1, 1999, Delegation of Authority No. 236 of October 19, 1999, as amended, and Delegation of Authority No. 257 of April 15, 2003 [68 FR 19875], I hereby determine that the object to be included in the exhibition ``Carvers and Collectors: The Lasting Allure of Ancient Gems,'' imported from abroad for temporary exhibition within the United States, is of cultural significance. The object is imported pursuant to a loan agreement with the foreign owner or custodian. I also determine that the exhibition or display of the exhibit object at the Getty Villa, Malibu, CA, from on or about March 19, 2009, until on or about September 7, 2009, at possible additional exhibitions or venues yet to be determined, is in the national interest. Public Notice of these Determinations is ordered to be published in the Federal Register.
Advisory Committee on Historical Diplomatic Documentation; Notice of Meeting
The Advisory Committee on Historical Diplomatic Documentation will meet in the Department of State, 2201 ``C'' Street, NW., Washington, DC, December 10, 2008, in Conference Room 1105 and December 11, 2008, in Conference Room 1107. Prior notification and a valid government-issued photo ID (such as driver's license, passport, U.S. government or military ID) are required for entrance into the building. Members of the public planning to attend must notify Nathaniel Smith, Office of the Historian (202-663-3268) no later than December 1, 2008, to provide date of birth, valid government-issued photo identification number and type (such as driver's license number/state, passport number/country, or U.S. government ID number/agency or military ID number/branch), and relevant telephone numbers. If you cannot provide one of the enumerated forms of ID, please consult with Nathaniel Smith for acceptable alternative forms of picture identification. The Committee will meet in open session from 1:30 p.m. through 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 10, 2008, in the Department of State, 2201 ``C'' Street, NW., Washington, DC, in Conference Room 1105, to discuss declassification and transfer of Department of State records to the National Archives and Records Administration and the status of the Foreign Relations series. The remainder of the Committee's sessions from 2:45 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 10, 2008, and 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. on Thursday, December 11, 2008, in Conference Room 1107 will be closed in accordance with Section 10(d) of the Federal Advisory Committee Act (Pub. L. 92-463). The agenda calls for discussions of agency declassification decisions concerning the Foreign Relations series and other declassification issues. These are matters not subject to public disclosure under 5 U.S.C. 552b(c)(1) and the public interest requires that such activities be withheld from disclosure.
