Medicare Program; Hospital Inpatient Prospective Payment Systems for Acute Care Hospitals and the Long Term Care Hospital Prospective Payment System and Proposed Fiscal Year 2014 Rates; Quality Reporting Requirements for Specific Providers; Hospital Conditions of Participation; Corrections
This document corrects technical and typographical errors in the proposed rule that appeared in the May 10, 2013 Federal Register titled ``Medicare Program; Hospital Inpatient Prospective Payment Systems for Acute Care Hospitals and the Long Term Care Hospital Prospective Payment System and Proposed Fiscal Year 2014 Rates; Quality Reporting Requirements for Specific Providers; Hospital Conditions of Participation.''
Medicare and Medicaid Programs; Requirements for Long Term Care Facilities; Hospice Services
This final rule will revise the requirements that an institution will have to meet in order to qualify to participate as a skilled nursing facility (SNF) in the Medicare program, or as a nursing facility (NF) in the Medicaid program. These requirements will ensure that long-term care (LTC) facilities (that is, SNFs and NFs) that choose to arrange for the provision of hospice care through an agreement with one or more Medicare-certified hospice providers will have in place a written agreement with the hospice that specifies the roles and responsibilities of each entity. This final rule reflects the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services' (CMS') commitment to the principles of the President's Executive Order 13563, released on January 18, 2011, titled ``Improving Regulation and Regulatory Review.'' It will improve quality and consistency of care between hospices and LTC facilities in the provision of hospice care to LTC residents.
Scientific Information Request on Imaging Tests for the Staging of Colorectal Cancer
The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) is seeking scientific information submissions on imaging tests for the staging of colorectal cancer (e.g., Chest x-ray, computed tomography, multidetector computed tomography (MD-CT), CT colonography, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), transabdominal ultrasound (TUS), endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), transrectal ultrasound (TRUS), positron emission tomography (PET), positron emission tomography combined with computed tomography (PET/CT fusion), or positron emission tomography combined with magnetic resonance imaging (PET/MRI fusion)) from medical device manufacturers. Scientific information is being solicited to inform our Comparative Effectiveness Review of Imaging Tests for the Staging of Colorectal Cancer, which is currently being conducted by one of the Evidence-based Practice Centers for the AHRQ Effective Health Care Program. Access to published and unpublished pertinent scientific information on these devices will improve the quality of this comparative effectiveness review. AHRQ is requesting this scientific information and conducting this comparative effectiveness review pursuant to Section 1013 of the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement, and Modernization Act of 2003, Public Law 108-173, and Section 902(a) of the Public Health Service Act, 42 U.S.C. 299a(a)
