This framework is an element of the Community Connectivity Initiative, which is one of the commitments of the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) through its work with the Broadband Opportunity Council, which President Obama established to review actions the federal government could take to reduce regulatory barriers to broadband deployment, competition, investment, and adoption. The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), through the BroadbandUSA program, will hold a half-day workshop on March 22, 2016, to engage stakeholders in developing meaningful measures for community broadband access, adoption, policy and use as part of its efforts to develop the Community Connectivity Initiative. The Community Connectivity Initiative will provide a framework to enable local leaders to better assess their community connectivity and strengthen efforts to align broadband technology with local policies and priorities. The Community Connectivity Initiative will include a tool for helping communities assess their broadband readiness. Stakeholder participation is critical to the design and implementation of the self-assessment tool. NTIA will convene this workshop to provide opportunities for participants to share insights and suggestions on the design of the program. NTIA also announces two webinars to provide additional information on the Community Connectivity Initiative.

The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), through the BroadbandUSA program, in conjunction with Next Century Cities will hold a one-day regional broadband summit, ``Digital Northwest,'' to share information to help communities build their broadband capacity and utilization. The summit will present best practices and lessons learned from broadband network infrastructure build-outs and digital inclusion programs from the State of Washington and surrounding states, including projects funded by NTIA's Broadband Technology Opportunities Program (BTOP) and State Broadband Initiative (SBI) grant programs funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.\1\ The summit will also explore effective business and partnership models and will include access to regional policymakers, federal funders and industry providers.
