Notice of Public Meeting of the Wisconsin Advisory Committee To Discuss Preparations for a Hearing on Hate Crimes in the State
Notice is hereby given, pursuant to the provisions of the rules and regulations of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights (Commission) and the Federal Advisory Committee Act that the Wisconsin Advisory Committee (Committee) will hold a meeting on Thursday, June 2, 2016, at 12:00 p.m. CDT for the purpose of preparing for a hearing on hate crime in the state. This meeting is open to the public through the following toll-free call-in number: 888-438-5519, conference ID: 4977249. Any interested member of the public may call this number and listen to the meeting. The conference call operator will ask callers to identify themselves, the organization they are affiliated with (if any), and an email address prior to placing callers into the conference room. Callers can expect to incur regular charges for calls they initiate over wireless lines, according to their wireless plan. The Commission will not refund any incurred charges. Notice is hereby given, pursuant to the provisions of the rules and regulations of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights (Commission) and the Federal Advisory Committee Act that the Michigan Advisory Committee (Committee) will hold a meeting on Thursday May 26, 2016, from 9:00 a.m.-3:45 p.m. EDT for the purpose of hearing testimony regarding the civil rights impact of civil asset forfeiture in the State. Of concern to the Committee is the extent to which law enforcement seizure of property believed to be connected to illegal activity may have a disparate impact on the basis of race, color, or other federally protected category. This meeting will take place at the Michigan Department of Transportation, Office of Aeronautics Auditorium, 2700 Port Lansing Rd., Lansing, MI 48906. This meeting is free and open to the public. An open forum period will be provided to allow members of the public to make a statement at the end of the morning and afternoon sessions.
