Fraudulent Misrepresentation of Campaign Authority
The Federal Election Commission is issuing guidance on the fraudulent misrepresentation of campaign authority.
Artificial Intelligence in Campaign Ads
The Commission announces its disposition of a Petition for Rulemaking filed on July 13, 2023. The Petition asks the Commission to revise existing rules on the fraudulent misrepresentation of campaign authority to make clear that the related statutory prohibition applies to deliberately deceptive campaign ads using artificial intelligence ("AI"). For the reasons described below, the Commission is not initiating a rulemaking at this time.
Use of Campaign Funds for Candidate and Officeholder Security
The Federal Election Commission is amending its regulations regarding the use of campaign funds to pay for security measures for federal candidates, officeholders, and members of their family and staff. The Commission is adopting this rule to codify several Commission advisory opinions that authorize the use of campaign funds to pay for certain security measures and address additional issues raised in those advisory opinions.
Requiring Reporting of Exchanges of Email Lists
The Commission announces its disposition of a Petition for Rulemaking filed on June 28, 2019. The Petition asks the Commission to revise existing reporting rules to state that mailing lists received or disbursed as part of an equal-value exchange must be reported. For the reasons described below, the Commission is not initiating a rulemaking at this time.
