Proposed Voluntary Guidance on Implementation of Statewide Voter Registration Lists
The EAC is proposing voluntary policy guidance on the interpretation of section 303(a) of the Help America Vote Act of 2002 (HAVA). HAVA was enacted to set standards for the administration of Federal elections. Included in the new standards is a requirement that each State develop and maintain a single, statewide list of registered voters. The voluntary guidance proposed by EAC will assist the States in understanding and interpreting HAVA's standards regarding statewide voter registration lists.
Publication of State Plans Pursuant to the Help America Vote Act
Pursuant to sections 254(a)(11)(A) and 255(b) of the Help America Vote Act (HAVA), Public Law 107-252, the U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC) hereby causes to be published in the Federal Register material changes to HAVA State plans previously submitted by Alaska and Ohio.
Sunshine Act Notice
The Technical Guidelines Development Committee (the ``Development Committee'') has scheduled a plenary meeting for April 20-21, 2005. The Committee was established to act in the public interest to assist the Executive Director of the Election Assistance Commission in the development of the voluntary voting system guidelines. The Development Committee held previous meetings on July 9, 2004; January 18 and 19, 2005; and March 9, 2005. The purpose of the fourth meeting of the Development Committee will be to review and approve a draft of the recommendations for voluntary voting system guidelines. The draft document will respond to tasks defined in resolutions passed at previous Technical Guideline Development Committee meetings.
Publication of State Plans Pursuant to the Help America Vote Act
Pursuant to sections 254(a)(11)(A) and 255(b) of the Help America Vote Act (HAVA), Public Law 107-252, the U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC) hereby causes to be published in the Federal Register material changes to HAVA State plans previously submitted by Oklahoma, South Dakota, and Texas.
Information Collection Activity; Proposed Collection; Comment Request
In compliance with section 3506(c)(2)(A) of the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995, EAC announces the proposed extension of a public information collection and seeks public comment on the provisions thereof. comments are invited on: (a) Whether the proposed collection of information is necessary for the proper performance of the functions of the agency, including whether the information shall have practical utility; (b) the accuracy of the agency's estimate of the burden of the proposed information collection; (c) ways to enhance the quality, utility, and clarity of the information to be collected; and (d) ways to minimize the burden of the information collection on respondents, including through the use of automated collection techniques or other forms of information technology.
Sunshine Act Notice; Meeting
The Technical Guidelines Development Committee (the ``Development Committee'') has scheduled a plenary meeting for March 9, 2005. The Committee was established pursuant to 42 U.S.C. 15361, to act in the public interest to assist the Executive Director of the Election Assistance Commission in the development of the voluntary voting system guidelines. The Development Committee held its first meeting on July 9th, 2004 and its second meeting on January 18 and 19, 2005. The purpose of the third meeting of the Committee will be to review and approve progress on technical work tasks defined in resolutions adopted at the January plenary meeting and to consider further resolutions if proposed.
