This helps the Department assess the impact of its information collection requirements and minimize the public’s reporting burden. Total Estimated Number of Annual Burden Hours: 46,135. Abstract: This is a request for the renewal of the OMB approval for the recordkeeping requirements contained in 34 CFR 674.53, 674.56, 674.57, 674.58 and 674.59. The information collections in these regulations are necessary to determine Federal Perkins Loan borrower’s eligibility to receive certain cancellation benefits and to prevent fraud and abuse of program funds. The requests for cancellation of Perkins Loans are received by the institution to determine the eligibility of the borrower and their loans for the cancellation being requested. The recordkeeping requirements are imposed to ensure accountability or program participants for proper program administration and to justify the payment of funds by the federal government.
