Section 14.313 of 46 CFR mandates that shipping companies maintain the shipping articles and that after 3 years deliver them to Coast Guard custody for storage at the Federal Records Center in Suitland, MD. In addition, shipping companies must provide copies of shipping articles to the Coast Guard upon request.
