The proposed project area is within the Kitt Peak National Observatory (KPNO) area leased by NSF from the Tohono O’odham Nation. A 4-hectare (10-acre) site known as Montosa Canyon, located in the Coronado National Forest in southern Arizona, is also evaluated as an alternative site.
