proposed information collection
requests as required by the Paperwork
Reduction Act of 1995.
DATES: Interested persons are invited to
submit comments on or before July 18,
2005.
SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION: Section
3506 of the Paperwork Reduction Act of
1995 (44 U.S.C. chapter 35) requires that
the Office of Management and Budget
(OMB) provide interested Federal
agencies and the public an early
opportunity to comment on information
collection requests. OMB may amend or
waive the requirement for public
consultation to the extent that public
participation in the approval process
would defeat the purpose of the
information collection, violate State or
Federal law, or substantially interfere
with any agency’s ability to perform its
statutory obligations. The Leader,
Information Management Case Services
Team, Regulatory Information
Management Services, Office of the
Chief Information Officer, publishes that
notice containing proposed information
collection requests prior to submission
of these requests to OMB. Each
proposed information collection,
grouped by office, contains the
following: (1) Type of review requested,
e.g. new, revision, extension, existing or
reinstatement; (2) title; (3) summary of
the collection; (4) description of the
need for, and proposed use of, the
information; (5) respondents and
frequency of collection; and (6)
reporting and/or recordkeeping burden.
OMB invites public comment.
The Department of Education is
especially interested in public comment
addressing the following issues: (1) Is
this collection necessary to the proper
functions of the Department; (2) will
this information be processed and used
in a timely manner; (3) is the estimate
of burden accurate; (4) how might the

the Basic Energy Sciences Advisory
Committee
Pursuant to Section 14(a)(2)(A) of the
Federal Advisory Committee Act, App.
2, and § 102–3.65, title 41, Code of
Federal Regulations and following
consultation with the Committee
Management Secretariat, General
Services Administration, notice is
hereby given that the Basic Energy
Sciences Advisory Committee has been
renewed until June 30, 2005.
The Committee will provide advice to
the Office of Science (DOE), on the basic
energy sciences program. The Secretary
of Energy has determined that renewal
of the Basic Energy Sciences Advisory
Committee is essential to the conduct of
the Department’s business and in the
public interest in connection with the
performance of duties imposed by law
upon the Department of Energy. The
Committee will continue to operate in
accordance with the provisions of the
Federal Advisory Committee Act (Pub.
L. 92–463), the General Services
Administration Final Rule on Federal
Advisory Committee Management, and
other directives and instructions issued
in implementation of those acts.

SUMMARY: The Defense Nuclear
Facilities Safety Board Recommendation
2005–1, concerning nuclear material
packaging was published in the Federal
Register on March 21, 2005 (70 FR
13482). In accordance with section
315(b) of the Atomic Energy Act of
1954, as amended, 42 U.S.C. 2286d(b),
and the Secretary transmitted the
following response to the Defense
Nuclear Facilities Safety Board on May
6, 2005.
