Chapter 26 - INSTITUTIONAL SCHOOL ACCREDITATION
Section 26-13 - Accreditation Status

Universal Citation: WY Code of Rules 26-13

Current through September 21, 2024

(a) Report to the Board. The Wyoming Department of Education shall annually verify compliance by the school with these regulations in a report to the State Board. The report shall be based on a review of verification documents submitted by the school or the review of verification documents and an on-site visit by a team established by the Department. Each school shall be given an opportunity to file a written response to the report. Responses must be received by the Department within thirty days of the receipt by the school of the report. The Department shall submit its findings to the State Board only after the opportunity for submission of response has been provided.

(b) Findings of the Board. The State Board of Education shall draw conclusions based on the report to the board submitted by the Department and any written response from the institutional school. Based on these findings it shall annually assign an accreditation status to each school. Schools may challenge assigned accreditation status as a contested case under the Wyoming Administrative Procedures Act.

(c) As a result of the findings of the board all schools shall be granted one of the following accreditation levels annually:

(i) Full Accreditation. The school has met the state standards in a fully satisfactory manner.

(ii) Conditional Accreditation. The school has met the state accreditation standards in less than a fully satisfactory manner. School to which conditional accreditation is assigned shall be provided the reasons for such action, shall be given a reasonable period of time to submit a plan to the Wyoming Department of Education to correct identified deficiencies; shall implement that plan, and no later than one year after the assignment of the conditional accreditation status submit a report to the department describing efforts to correct the deficiencies. The Department shall submit that report to the State Board of Education. The Board shall act as follows: ask for a further verification by the Department; extend the time the school is conditionally accredited; move the school to full accreditation; or move the school to non-accredited status. Failure of a school to submit a plan, failure of the school to implement its plan, or failure of the school to correct deficiencies shall be grounds for assigning the school nonaccredited status.

(iii) Non-Accredited. The school has not met the state accreditation standards. The State Board may attach penalties on an individual basis. Should the State Board assign non-accredited status, the school may submit a plan to the Department for correcting identified deficiencies and, if the plan is accepted by the Department, the school may request that the board assign conditional accreditation. If the plan incorporates full and immediate compliance with all regulations, the school may request that the State Board assign conditional accreditation. If the plan incorporates full and immediate compliance with all regulations, the school may request that the State Board assign full accreditation.
