Chapter 8 - MOBILE PUMPING OPERATIONS
Section 8-3 - Portable Heater Treaters and Hot Oil Units

(a) Heater Treaters.
(i) All propane tanks shall be
equipped with electric solenoid valves on fuel lines to the engine and to the
burner with electrically actuated controls located in the cab of the vehicle
and at least one exterior location.
(ii) Discharge hoses shall not be used at
pressures over 200 psi.
(iii) A
visual inspection of hoses shall be made prior to each use and defective hoses
shall be removed from service.
(iv)
When treating ignitible liquids, a remotely operated shut-off valve shall be
placed on the tank being heated. This valve shall allow shutoff from at least
50 feet away by use of a noncombustible method. (For example, a cotton, manila
or nylon rope would not be adequate.)
(b) Hot Oil Units.
(i) All propane tanks shall be equipped with
electric solenoid valves on fuel lines to the engine and to the burner with
electrically actuated controls located in the cab of the vehicle and at least
one exterior location.
(ii)
Discharge hoses shall not be used at pressures over 200 psi.
(iii) A visual inspection of hoses and/or
lines shall be made prior to each use and defective equipment shall be removed
from service.
(iv) Hot oil units
shall be maintained at a distance no less than 75 feet from the well bore and
shall be maintained upwind or crosswind of the well bore.
(v) Hoses and/or pipes shall be tested at 25
percent above the well operator's specified pressure.
(vi) Heating operations shall be shut down
during fracturing or pressure testing operations.
