Section 7-3 - Wireline Equipment and Operations

(a) Pins used in makeup of sheave wheels and associated clevices shall be secured.

(b) If it becomes necessary to place slack in a wireline while tools are in the well, an appropriate wireline clamp shall be used to sustain the weight of the suspended line and tools.

(c) Hands, rags and other objects shall be kept clear of sheaves and wireline while the wireline is in motion.

(d) Wireline wipers shall be secured to prevent displacement.

(e) Stuffing boxes/oil savers shall be operated only by remote control while the wireline is moving.

(f) A properly rated chain or wire sling shall be used to secure the lower sheave wheel. The device shall be attached to a sturdy rig member, wellhead, or other stable fixture.

(g) A sheave wheel shall be painted predominately yellow or orange, and may have contrasting markings.

(h) When handling a wireline that is extended from the special services unit, precaution shall be taken to prevent contact with energized and exposed electrical equipment.
