Chapter 2 - APPROVAL OF ANALYTICAL METHODS
Section 2-2 - Breath Alcohol Analyses

(a) Instruments used for quantitative breath alcohol analyses must be capable of accepting a specimen of deep lung breath (substantially alveolar in composition) for analysis.
(b) Loss of alcohol (from the breath specimen) through condensation shall be prevented.
(c) Results shall be reported as percent alcohol concentration, which is grams of alcohol per two hundred ten (210) liters of breath.
(d) Substances that are produced endogenously and appear in the breath shall not contribute to apparent alcohol concenti'ation by more than 0.005%.
(e) The state agency may include ease of use, maintenance, suitability for field use and other operational capabilities to insure scientific validity and uniform standards of practice for chemical analysis of alcohol m their evaluation.
(f) Breath test units must be on the qualified or conforming products list of the National Highway Transportation Safety Agency (NHTSA) at the time of evaluation.
(g) An approved procedure sheet or checklist will be issued by the state agency.
