Section PSC 135.053 - General additions [49 CFR 192.53]

(1) After 49 CFR 192.53(a), insert:
(aw) Some of the materials conforming to
specifications approved for use under 49 CFR 192 may not have properties
suitable for the lower portion of the temperature band covered by 49 CFR 192.
Operators are cautioned to give attention to the low-temperature properties of
the materials used for facilities to be exposed to unusually low ground
temperatures or low atmospheric temperatures. Twenty inch steel pipe and
larger, with a specified minimum yield strength of 52,000 p.s.i. or higher,
shall be tested for fracture toughness in accordance with the applicable
section of respective API standard under which it was produced, except for
small lot purchases of pipe where testing for fracture toughness is
impractical.
(2) After 49 CFR 192.53(c) insert:
(dw) When substantial quantities of pipe are
acquired certified reports of chemical composition and physical properties
shall be obtained; when the quantity of pipe involved is so limited that this
requirement would be impractical, a certified statement shall be obtained
setting forth the specification under which the pipe was
manufactured.
