Section 126-85-55 - Providing Meals Prior to Application Approval

55.1. During the opening weeks of school, before applications for the current school year are received and approved, school officials shall serve free and reduced price meals or free milk to eligible students. To assist with eligibility determination during the first days of school, officials may use:

55.1.1. applications on file from the previous school year;

55.1.2. self-certification of secondary students under special circumstances;

55.1.3. new students in a school with older siblings that were approved for benefits the previous year; and/or

55.1.4. students that transfer within the county.

55.2. If students are provided free or reduced price meals or free milk in eligible schools (based on the previous year's application approval) during the period prior to the current year's application approval and are later determined to be ineligible, reimbursement may be claimed at the free or reduced price rate for those meals already served until October 31.
