Section 126-85-119 - Safety and Sanitation

119.1. To avoid health and safety hazards, only authorized school food service personnel shall be allowed in the food preparation and serving areas. Use of tobacco shall not be permitted in the school building or on school property.

119.2. Health department inspections are conducted annually. Reports are posted in the food service area. All citations must be corrected or a plan be in place to correct all critical areas violations.

119.3. It is recommended that food service personnel wear clean uniforms. Approved hair restraints are required. Garments shall be stored in the food service area and shall be laundered or replaced daily.

119.4. To ensure that foods are served at proper temperatures, plates or trays should be filled only as the students pass through the line. In schools, family style is not permitted for students and/or adults, except for Head Start and preschool child care programs.

119.5. Food preparation and service are conducted to ensure food safety and sanitation as required by West Virginia Code § 64-17-1 (1999 Food Code Manual).
