Section 126-85-116 - Charging Meals

Current through Register Vol. XLI, No. 38, September 20, 2024

116.1. In a cash on the line/prepay point of service system, provisions for charging meals and/or milk on an emergency short-term basis are recommended, particularly in the case of elementary and middle schools. SFAs may implement a meal charging system whereby families are billed on a regular basis.

116.2. SFAs that choose to bill participants for meals, at either the school or SFA level, shall have a county board of education approved collection policy for addressing outstanding unpaid participant accounts. Schools are not required to provide meals or milk indefinitely when payment has not been made in a time determined to be reasonable by local school officials. Accounts submitted to an independent collection agency shall have charging privileges revoked. Schools are encouraged to obtain completed free and/or reduced price meal applications when financial need is obvious.
