An employee who does not have permanent status must serve a probationary period when appointed to an in-training position. Once an employee has permanent status, the employee must serve a trial service period at each training step within the in-training plan. When an employee is still in a probationary or trial service period and is advanced to the next training step in the in-training plan, the original probationary or trial service period continues and the employee begins the trial service period of the next step. The original probationary or trial service period and the new trial service period run concurrently until the terms of the original probationary or trial service period are completed.
