Section 296-806-48026 - Guard inverted swing (jump) saws

(1) You must guard jump saws with a hood that both:
(a) Covers the part of the saw that is
exposed above the top of the table or above the material being cut;
and
(b) Automatically adjusts to
the thickness of the material being cut and remains in contact with
it.
(2) You must provide a holding device that will prevent stock from moving while cutting materials.
(3) You must provide warning signs, stickers, or placards when the pinching hazard created by the holding device cannot be eliminated by design.
(4) You must provide the following for automatically fed jump saws.
(a) Place guards
over the roller conveyor to prevent persons from walking into or over the
saw.
(b) Enclose jump saws when
below the table or roller conveyor and not in actual use.
(c) Install a positive stop to prevent the
saw from passing the front edge of the roller conveyor or table.
(d) Make sure the throat in the table or
roller conveyor is only wide enough to permit unobstructed operation of the
saw.
