Section 296-304-06011 - Work in or on lifeboats

(1) Before employees are permitted to work in or on a lifeboat, either stowed or in a suspended position, you must ensure that the boat is secured independently of the releasing gear to prevent the boat from falling due to accidental tripping of the releasing gear and movement of the davits or capsizing of a boat in chocks.

(2) Employees must not be permitted to remain in boats while the boats are being hoisted or lowered, except when you demonstrate that it is necessary to conduct operational tests or drills over water, or in the event of an emergency.

(3) Employees must not be permitted to work on the outboard side of lifeboats stowed on their chocks unless the boats are secured by gripes or otherwise secured to prevent them from swinging outboard.
