Podiatric physicians shall exercise professional judgment in selecting appropriate treatment modalities for the treatment of pain, including the use of nonopioid multimodal pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic therapy as an alternative to opioids whenever reasonable, clinically appropriate, evidence-based alternatives exist. Nonopioid pain management modalities may include, but are not limited to, antidepressants, anticonvulsants, anti-inflammatory medications, acetaminophen, interventional procedures, or any non-pharmacological pain treatments, or any combination of the above modalities.
