Section 246-366A-080 - Safety - Animals in school facilities

(1) School officials shall allow in school facilities only those animals, other than service animals, approved under written policies or procedures.
(2) School officials shall develop written policies or procedures for any animals allowed in school facilities to prevent:
(a)
Injuries caused by wild, dangerous, or aggressive animals;
(b) Spread of diseases from animals known to
commonly carry diseases including, but not limited to, rabies, psittacosis, and
salmonellosis;
(c) Allergic
reactions;
(d) Exposure to animal
wastes; and
(e) Handling animals or
their bedding without proper handwashing afterward.
(3) Written policies or procedures required under subsection (2) of this section shall address service animals in the school facility that are not well behaved or present a risk to health and safety.
