This general permit regulation governs the discharge of wastewaters from petroleum contaminated sites, non-petroleum contaminated sites, groundwater remediation discharges, dewatering activities, the hydrostatic testing of natural gas storage tanks and pipelines, the hydrostatic testing and dewatering of petroleum storage tank systems and associated distribution equipment, and the hydrostatic testing of water storage tanks and pipelines. These wastewaters may be discharged from the following activities: excavation dewatering, conducting aquifer tests to characterize site conditions, pumping contaminated groundwater to remove free product, discharges resulting from another petroleum product, chlorinated hydrocarbon solvent, metals or other contaminated site cleanup, hydrostatic tests of natural gas and petroleum storage tanks or pipelines, hydrostatic tests and dewatering of storage tanks and associated distribution equipment, and hydrostatic tests of water storage tank systems or pipelines. Discharges not associated with petroleum-contaminated water, water contaminated by chlorinated hydrocarbon solvents, or hydrostatic tests are not covered under this general permit.
