AGENCY SUMMARY

The Motor Vehicle Dealer Board is authorized to (i) establish qualifications of applicants for certification or licensure under the Virginia Motor Vehicle Dealer Licensing Act (Chapter 15 of Title 46.2 of the Code of Virginia); (ii) certify or license qualified applicants as motor vehicle dealers and motor vehicle salespersons; (iii) levy and collect fees for certification, recertification or licensure and renewal; (iv) levy on licensees special assessments necessary to cover expenses of the board; (v) revoke, suspend, or fail to renew a certificate or license for just cause; and (vi) administer the Transaction Recovery Fund. The board is authorized to promulgate regulations it considers necessary for the effective administration and enforcement of the Act, including regulations specifying additional training or conditions for certification or licensure (Article 1), and regulations enforcing advertising practices (Article 9).
