AGENCY SUMMARY

The Board of Dentistry is an agency within the Department of Health Professions. Code of Virginia, Title 54.1, Chapter 25. See the summary for the department for the regulatory power applicable to all health regulatory boards. Code of Virginia, Title 54.1, Chapter 24.

The board is authorized to license and promulgate regulations governing the practice and teaching of dentistry and dental hygiene. It is also authorized to promulgate regulations for the registration of dental assistants II, mobile dental clinics and dentists who use moderate sedation or anesthesia in dental offices. The board also registers dentists who practice oral and maxillofacial surgery and certifies those who perform cosmetic procedures. Code of Virginia, Title 54.1, Chapter 27.
