Section 14 054 009 - RULE NO. 9: GENERAL STANDARDS REQUIRED FOR APPROVAL OF ALL OFFICIAL BUSINESS DIRECTIONAL SIGNS ERECTED BY THE TRAVEL INFORMATION COUNCIL

a. An application for the erection of either an official business directional sign or an information plaza plaque shall not be approved if the applicant is in violation of any federal or state law affecting outdoor advertising in the State of Vermont, as stated in 10 V.S.A. Section 489.

b. The Council shall require removal of all official business directional signs and information plaza plaques of persons who are maintaining signs which are in violation of the laws referred to in subsection (a) of this rule.

c. This rule shall not affect the Council's right to seek equitable relief to order the removal of a sign which is illegally erected or maintained or to seek an injunction against the erection or maintenance of any illegal signs.

d. For the purposes of this rule, any sign which violates the Highway Beautification Act of 1965, as amended, or any sign which is in violation of Vermont laws, whether it be within the confines of the State of Vermont or not, shall be included in subsections (a), (b) and (c) of this rule, provided that sign is within view of the traveling public within the State of Vermont.
