(1)
(a) An outfitting company shall ensure each
motorboat in its fleet carries a minimum of one type B-1 fire
extinguisher.
(b) A motorboat
equipped solely with an electric motor, and not carrying flammable fuels on
board, is exempt from the requirements of Subsection (a).
(2) An outfitting company shall ensure that each motorboat in its fleet that is equipped with an inboard, outboard, or direct drive gasoline engine and that can carry more than six passengers has at least one fixed U.S. Coast Guard-approved fire extinguishing system mounted in the engine compartment.
(3)
(a) A portable fire extinguisher shall be
mounted in a readily accessible location, near the helm, and away from the
engine compartment.
(b) A portable
fire extinguisher may be stowed in a readily accessible location near the
operator's position when the vessel is operating on a river.
(4) An outfitting company shall install a smoke detector:
(a) in each enclosed
passenger area of a vessel capable of carrying more than 12 passengers for
hire; or
(b) a vessel that provides
on-board overnight passenger accommodation.
