Social detoxification is an organized service delivered by trained staff who provide 24-hour supervision, observation, and support for individuals who are intoxicated or experiencing withdrawal. This level of service is characterized by its emphasis on peer and social support rather than nursing or medical care. This level of service provides care for individuals whose intoxication or withdrawal symptoms are sufficiently severe to require 24-hour structure and support, however not in need of the full resources of a medically monitored level of care.
