(1) In addition to compliance to the provisions of Rule R313-35 the following sections are specific to portable, hand-held, non-medical x-ray systems, excluding portable handheld devices that are manufactured to provide inherent operator protection:
(a) Protective aprons of at least 0.5
millimeter lead equivalence shall be provided for the operator to protect the
operator's torso and gonads from backscatter radiation while operating the
x-ray source;
(b) Each operator of
hand-held x-ray systems shall complete a training program supplied by the
manufacturer prior to using the x-ray system. Records of training shall be
maintained on file for examination by an authorized representative of the
Director; and
(c) For hand-held
x-ray systems, the provision in Subsection
R313-35-110(1)(d)
of the length of electrical cord for the dead-man switch is optional.
