Rule R277-608 - Prohibition of Corporal Punishment in Utah's Public Schools

(1) This rule is authorized by:
(a) Utah
Constitution Article X, Section 3, which vests general control and supervision
over public education in the Board;
(b) Section 53A-1-401, which allows the Board
to make rules to execute the Board's duties and responsibilities under the Utah
Constitution and state law; and
(c)
Sections
53A-11-801
through
53A-11-805,
which provide guidelines for the use of reasonable and necessary physical
restraint or force in educational settings.
(2) The purpose of this rule is to direct LEAs to have policies in place that prohibit corporal punishment consistent with the law.
