Section 511.51 - Provision of Services

(a) The limited services rural hospital (LSRH) shall adopt, implement, train, and enforce written policies to ensure all provided services are consistent with accepted professional standards and practice and compliance in accordance with applicable federal and state law.
(b) The LSRH must develop policies with the advice of members of the LSRH's professional health care staff, including:
(1) one or more physicians; and
(2) one or more of the following if they are
on staff under the provisions of Code of Federal Regulations Title 42 (42 CFR)
§485.528(b)(1):
(A) physician assistants;
or
(B) advanced practice registered
nurses.
(c) The policies must include:
(1) a description of
the services the LSRH provides, including those provided through agreement or
arrangement;
(2) policies and
procedures for emergency medical services;
(3) guidelines for the medical management of
health problems, including:
(A) conditions
requiring medical consultation or patient referral;
(B) maintenance of health care records;
and
(C) procedures for the periodic
review and evaluation of LSRH services; and
(4) policies and procedures that address the
post-acute care needs of patients receiving services in the LSRH.
(d) The group of professional personnel described in subsection (b) of this section must review and update the policies as necessary, but at least biennially.
